Why does FMC care matter? More than 16,000 families in our service area qualify for our no-charge medical and mental health services. Demand for FMC’s care continues to grow as more families struggle to afford and access quality healthcare. Our current facility is no longer able to meet the rising needs of low-income and uninsured families that need medical care but cannot afford it. While FMC delivers exceptional care through our dedicated medical and administrative teams, achieving our vision of best-in-class care requires a clinic facility designed to support that level of service. This project does that.

A Building That Tells A Story: Every wing, hallway, room, and parking space will tell a unified story through the levels of giving from community members. It will all shout this truth: When a community chooses to invest in families in need who work hard to improve their own lives, we will roll up our sleeves and give a helping hand so they can experience life-changing care. Each patient who walks into the Free Medical Clinic will be inspired that they are not forgotten and never alone.

Caring Neighbors Take Action: No More Fear for Low-Income and Uninsured Families as FMC Volunteers have a New Home! A strong community is built when people are given a place to come together in the service of something larger than themselves. The Free Medical Clinic provides that place—a welcoming, purpose-driven home where community members, and especially medical professionals, can use their skills to make a tangible difference in the lives of their neighbors. More than a clinic, it is a hub of compassion where volunteers find meaning, connection, and the opportunity to turn care into action. When people have a shared space to serve, impact multiplies.

A PLACE WHERE COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS COME TOGETHER AROUND A SHARED MISSION: FMC Community Partners are helping to rewrite the future history of the working poor families in our area. FMC is honored to stand alongside our Community Champions— The City of Oak Ridge, Tennessee College of Applied Technology of Harriman, The Oak Ridge National Lab / UT Battelle, CNS Y12, Covenant Health (Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge), Roane State Community College, MCL, INC., The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, TN Department of Health, and many more valuable companies and organizations - who believe that working families deserve medical care that they can’t afford. We love sharing life with our partners as we help them in bringing positive transformation to our countries as they help us.

The Free Medical Clinic is expanding its Oak Ridge clinic by relocating to a new facility (The Old National Guard Armory) at 1790 Oak Ridge Turnpike, allowing us to improve care and increase capacity as we serve low-income and uninsured families who depend on FMC for no-charge medical, mental health, dental, vision, women’s health, chronic disease management, and community health services.

This new location will significantly increase our capacity to care for the working poor in Oak Ridge and the surrounding counties. Through this expansion, FMC is advancing our organizational vision of becoming a best-in-class clinic for the working poor, ensuring sustainable and community-based care for years to come.

Every community is measured not by what it has, but by how it cares for those who need it most. In Anderson, Morgan, and Roane Counties, thousands of hardworking individuals and families live each day without medical and mental health care. These families often delay the care they need, ration medications, and carry chronic illness quietly—until crisis forces them into emergency rooms or deeper hardship.

This project is not about bricks and mortar. It is about families staying healthy enough to work, getting people back to work, and students back in the classroom. It’s about removing the fear of “what if I get sick or hurt, what will I do?” Your investment takes that fear away.
